Photrain courses are all about photography – we’re photographers ourselves and we want to share our knowledge and experience to help you improve your photography.
Photrain courses are short, friendly and packed with useful hints and tips. We aim to keep the jargon and technical terminology out of our courses so we can focus on helping you quickly get to grips with your camera.
Photrain courses are suitable for everyone, all ages, regardless of your current skill level. We cater for Digital SLR (DSLR) owners as well as digital compact, bridge and compact system cameras (CSC).
Based in Buckinghamshire (Haddenham) we run our courses locally – no need to travel far and wide to attend Photrain courses. Courses regularly take place in locations such as Thame, Haddenham, High Wycombe and Princes Risborough. We even provide 1 to 1 tuition if you prefer.
Steven and Adam are professional photographers, with skills in a variety of photographic genres: weddings to corporate, pets to landscapes, sports to portraits, still life to wildlife and in response to many people asking if we provided training and with a lack of local, affordable training courses, Photrain was born.
We’ve met with many camera owners who are frustrated with the results, that their often expensive investments are giving them. Many lack the confidence and understanding to move away from the “automatic” modes and want to know what all those settings, menus, dials and buttons do?
The user manuals that these cameras are supplied with often assume prior knowledge – f-stops, ISO and shutter speeds, composition, lighting, depth of field and so on – and are often poor translations from another language.
Steven’s interest in Photography started at a very early age while his father was working for Kodak. He recalls how his father introduced him to the processing of black and white film in the family bathroom. From that point onwards his interest began to grow. Many years and many cameras later Steven can now be found photographing Weddings or on Lifestyle shoots. When not photographing people he can be found outside relaxing either photographing wildlife or the diversified landscape this country has to offer.
Steven’s ability to train people was obtained earlier in his career. He recalls “I was often told that I have natural ability when it comes to teaching and a great deal of patience. Everybody learns at a different pace and it is crucial for the trainer to understand this.”
It is now time to combine my photographic skills with my ability to train.
Steven is a member of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers.

Adam has been around photography all his life, as his father too was a professional photographer. From his early days of film and darkrooms his interest has remained solid and is now firmly in the digital era and the use of computers and software in photography.
With a professional focus on weddings, portraits, corporate and events and a very keen interest in sports photography, mainly motorsport, Adam is rarely to be found without a camera nearby.
In addition to photography training, he also regularly provides training to groups, large and small, as well as one to one in topics outside of photography and thoroughly enjoys sharing his knowledge with others.
