You’ve bought a camera, maybe a lens or two, or perhaps you’re adding to your lens collection. But are you taking precautions?
A simple, easy, low cost ultra violet (UV) or skylight filter attached to the front of your lens will help protect it from dust, grit, water, fingers and even the odd knock.
Filters can cost just a few pounds, but what would the cost be to repair a damaged lens or replace the lens completely?
There is the consideration that adding an extra piece of glass at the front of the lens that the manufacturer hadn’t included in their design can cause tiny differences in the pictures that you take – but it will be tiny – and for those special shots, you could always remove the filter temporarily.
Hints and tips like this are covered in our “Getting Started” course – with dates now announced through to June 2012.
