It’s a great opportunity to get some stunning shots and with a few simple techniques in mind, it’s not difficult.
The key to successful firework shots is a steady camera and the correct exposure. Arrive early and work out where you’re going to stand (or sit). If you’ve got one, take a tripod, if not, find another way of setting your camera up so you don’t have to hand hold it. You’re going to need reasonably long exposures – too long typically to hand hold.
Setup your camera so that you have an exposure of at least a second, perhaps even as long as four seconds and even more if you want to get really creative. That way you’ll record the light trail left by the fireworks not just a snapshot as they pass through the sky.
